AW19: Nail colour trends by Kat Hill, Scratch Magazine

From the catwalk to the Nailpad – Kat Hill, deputy editor at Scratch Magazine, shares four top nail trends to note for this season…

Sweet berry tones

Juicy berry and red fruit hues will be a sweet pick this season. Session stylist, Steph Stone, tended to the talons of models walking the Rodarte catwalk in Los Angeles. Models wore glittery red nails, using Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer shade, Rare As Rubies. Nails were also shaped to a pointed almond, reminiscent of 70s starlets, drawing on the collection’s inspiration.

Stock up on glistening red, purple and pink hues for a delectable nail finish.

Copper calling

Burn bright this season with russet tones and gleaming copper nail hues. Marian Newman, with Winnie Huang & CND™ Design Lab Team, incorporated earthy elements for the nail look for Mary Katrantzou’s London showcase. The team used CND VINYLUX™ shades Bicycle Yellow, Brick Knit, Black Pool, Wildfire, Brimstone and Cream Puff. Designs was also accented with 24 Karat gold foil.

Recreate this trend with rich copper colours, as well as earthy oranges, bronze browns and rich ochre yellows.

Bold bohemian

Calling all artistes! Take note of on-trend, bold red, blue and green hues for a charmingly bohemian nail look.

Top tech, Robbie Tomkins, created a fresh take on the French tip for the London House of Holland showcase. Robbie added a touch of teal with a ‘Chunky Reverse French’ design. Using OPI shade Is That a Spear in Your Pocket? as the base colour, the team then added a smaller oval of Lady In Black to create a retro style to complement to bold and bright styling of the collection.

Pearly queen

The catwalks saw a plethora of pearl embellishments, with some looks incorporating them all over the fingers and whole hands. Bora Aksu at London Fashion Week saw glittering white nails by Sabrina Gayle using Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer. While, manicurist, Lauren Michelle Pires, used Jessica Nails products to create a clean nail with a smattering of pearls for the Yuhan Wang show in London. Add a touch of luxe with pearl nail art embellishments or apply a sheer iridescent polish.
